Things I Miss from Home

Now that I've been here for a month, I think it's only appropriate that I publish the list of things I miss from home. These aren't things that I casually miss, folks. These are things that I would give my life savings for! London is amazing for so many things, but I can't help missing those few comforts from home! Here we go!

Things I miss from home (not including family, friends, Libby, Joey, and Boiler):

1. MEXICAN FOOD: literally, the tacos here are made out of lentils and curry. I was absolutely ecstatic when I found a Mexican chef at a market last week. I ordered tacos as big as my head, and while they were delicious in their own way, they were NOT Mexican tacos :( I would do anything for a cheese enchilada smothered in red sauce, a crunchy taco with loads of cheese and salsa, and queso. Oh, queso. When I get off the plane in Indianapolis, I'm going straight for Mexican cuisine!

2. ICE: I've tried to fight it. I've tried to talk myself out of missing it. But, I do miss ice. Drinking room temperature water is way overrated, especially when it's every. single. day. I haven't had ice water since I've been here, and forget about getting ice in your soda or cocktail. It's the little things that make the difference.

3. STRING CHEESE: Okay, the cheese here is amazing. It's a million times better than the fake yellow stuff we have at home (yes, I'm going to come back as a cheese snob so just prepare yourself now), but I miss my Sargento 1% fat, 60 calories per stick string cheese. I tried the string cheese here. NOT THE SAME.

4. MY MOM'S COOKING: I like to think that I'm a pretty good chef, and Bennett has certainly enjoyed my cooking while we've been here, but I would LOVE to have my Mom make me a home cooked meal. Trying to cook in the little hub that calls itself a kitchen is quite trying, and the lack of oven is a real downer. I think I totally under appreciated my Mom's cooking until now, and I cannot wait to go back home to some home cooked meals! Love you, Mom!

5. MY QUEEN BED: obviously.

6. RUNNING: Don't get me wrong, I've been absolutely loving my runs through Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, and Regents Park, but it takes me 20 minutes on the tube just to get there. I miss the days when I could walk out my front door, go for a run, and arrive back home after 30 minutes to an hour of pure running. The 40 minute commute to run is putting a real cramp in my style, and don't worry, I've attempted running around Spitalfiends. Running here - or any other non-park area of London - is simply not an option.

7. MY PHONE: I obviously have my phone here, and can use it almost like normal in wifi areas, but I miss the days of easily calling and texting, checking my twitter and facebook, and emailing - anywhere, anytime.

8. BUFFALO SAUCE: This, like Mexican food, is something I would pay big bucks for at this point. The closest thing here to buffalo sauce is chili sauce - again, NOT THE SAME. Buffalouie's, if you're reading this, please send some wings to 9 Frying Pan Alley!!!

9. PUMPKIN: As I browse Pinterest and look at all the delicious fall-baked goods that involve pumpkin, the drooling goes from inappropriate to excessive. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin-spiced lattes, pumpkin cookies, cakes, creamers, trifles, ANYTHING. They just don't have it here. Come on people, IT'S FALL!!

10. CRYSTAL LITE: Again, that doesn't exist here. I can only assume that drinking room-temperature crystal lite would be more pleasant than drinking plain old room-temperature water. It would at least break up the monotony! Anyone who cares, SEND CRYSTAL LITE TO 9 FRYING PAN ALLEY! Lemonade and Raspberry Lemonade would be highly appreciated!

There are many other things I miss from home, but those are just the highlights :) If I think of any more I'll be sure to post them!
